Morgan ready to help lead J-Milton

NORTH JACKSON - Jackson-Milton coach Mark Assion remembers when now-senior Trevor Morgan came to the Jackson-Milton football program as a freshman.

"He wasn't the easiest to work with when he first got here," Assion said. "But he has a great attitude now and he's ready to make contributions at multiple positions."

So is Morgan.

"(I want to be remembered) as a leader, and as someone who changed his attitude along the way for the better," Morgan said. "I want people to forget the time when it wasn't the best. My mom helped me to realize having a bad attitude wasn't going to get me anywhere."

With that change in attitude, Morgan wants to be one of the leaders of the Blue Jays, and help them snap their current 13-game losing streak.

This year, Assion, Morgan and the rest of the Blue Jays are embracing the motto of "get six. The mantra means to average six yards a play, have all offensive drives end in six points, and to have six players who make an outstanding play during the game.

"It's a good number to strive for," Morgan said. "And it's good to have a goal on each play and on each drive - six yards per play will definitely lead to us scoring six on a lot of our offensive drives."

While the those are the team goals, Morgan's individual goals are modest.

"I'd like to get three to five interceptions on defense and 500 yards with about three touchdowns on offense," he said

But it's the team goals he's more focused on.

"We're hoping to be the first team in Jackson-Milton history to make the playoffs," Morgan said.

It would be a turnaround much like the one Morgan made himself.

"He's come a long way since his freshman year,"Assion said. "He's worked really hard and has really changed his attitude."

Morgan and the rest of the Blue Jays will be looking to "get six" - and begin their possible run at the playoffs - on Aug. 30 as they take on Chalker.
