CHAMPION - The Golden Flashes outscored the Leopards 14-0 in the fourth quarter and held Liberty's Sherron Walls in check, giving Champion the 28-20 upset-victory over Liberty.

The Leopards were controlling their own destiny heading into Friday's game. However, after falling to the Golden Flashes, the Leopards are still now waiting for their playoff fate.

Now at 8-2, the Leopards still should own a playoff spot in Division IV, Region 13, but will have to wait until Sunday to see where they will travel to in the first week of the playoffs.

Champion gave the Leopards all they could handle. After Liberty's John Helms ran back the opening kick for the 90-yard score, Champion scored 14 unanswered points. The first was a Mike Cyrus touchdown run in the first quarter. Then his brother, Jason, caught a 22-yard pass from James Naylor to give the Flashes the 14-6 halftime lead.

Liberty's Walls, who finished the game with 103 yards, had two touchdowns in the third quarter, putting Liberty up 20-14 heading into the fourth. But the Flashes rallied back. Rocco Sandrella caught a 6-yard pass from Naylor for the score, followed by a Naylor 1-yard run, giving the Flashes the win.

Champion, which finishes the season at 5-5, was led by Naylor, who had 34 yards rushing and was 12 of 18 for 135 yards in the air.
