Girard gets first victory of season, beats LaBrae

LEAVITTSBURG - Trailing 25-20 in the fourth quarter, Girard scored twice to rally and defeat LaBrae for its first win of the season, 34-28.

James Cupan had a 1-yard run to put the Indians ahead 26-25, then he added a 16-yarder for the clinching score with 2:51 left.

Nick Cardiero passed for 212 yards and two touchdowns for Girard. Cupan rushed for 89 yards and Jordan Graziano had 129 yards receiving on six catches.

Carl Brown paced the Vikings with 110 total yards and scored all four of their touchdowns.

MINERAL RIDGE 42, LISBON 26: WEATHERSFIELD - Devine Redding was unstoppable against the Blue Devils, rushing for 237 yards and four touchdowns as the Rams won on Homecoming.

Redding's touchdowns were from 63, 61, 9 and 55 yards. He averaged 17 yards per carry.

Adding the other two Mineral Ridge scores was a Steven Phillips 70-yard kick return to open the game and Phillips receiving a 65-yard pass from Jon Baker.

The Rams put up 369 yards of offense on the night. They improve to 4-4 (3-2) on the season.

LIBERTY 47, NEWTON FALLS 12: NEWTON FALLS - It was all Leopards in this All-American Conference, National Division contest.

Liberty jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead behind two touchdowns each from Sherron Walls and two passing plays from Asim Pleas to John Helms. On the night, Walls rushed for 136 yards on seven carries. Helms rushed for 51 yards and caught for 78. Pleas was 5 of 8 for 116. Walls added a third touchdown in the third quarter.

On the night, the Leopards (7-1) put up 440 yards of offense.

Newton Falls (1-7) struggled on offense, not putting up a score until the fourth quarter. Chris Gregory rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns.

LEDGEMONT 19, PYMATUNING VALLEY 13: THOMPSON - Ledgemont and Pymatuning Valley combined for 13 turnovers, but the Redskins did just enough for the win.

Mike McKeon had touchdown runs of 1 and 3 yards in the second quarter to give Ledgemont (4-4, 3-0) a 19-6 halftime lead.

Quintin Ratliff got the first touchdown for Pymatuning Valley (2-6, 1-2) with a 59-yard interception return. He threw a 7-yard scoring pass to Tim Cross in the fourth quarter to get the Lakers within six points.

URSULINE 47, ERIE STRONG VINCENT 21: YOUNGSTOWN - Chris Durkin was 7-of-8 passing for 128 yards and two touchdowns, with 37 more yards rushing, as Ursuline routed Erie Strong Vincent.

Jermaine Williams and Tramain Thigpen each rushed for two touchdowns and combined for 116 yards.

Chris Stirocky was 10-of-12 passing for 110 yards and a touchdown for Strong Vincent.

STRUTHERS 39, CANFIELD 21: STRUTHERS - David Stewart rushed for 248 yards on only 28 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead Struthers.

Stewart had scoring runs of 3, 8 and 35 yards and added a 45-yard TD pass from Gary Muntean.

Muntean was 8-of-12 passing for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

Kimu Kim led Canfield with 109 total yards and he had a 1-yard touchdown run.

WESTERN RESERVE 28, SOUTHERN 6: BERLIN CENTER - Tim Cooper had a combined 249 yards and scored four touchdowns as Western Reserve easily defeated Southern.

Cooper had scoring runs of 15, 7 and 6 yards and a 34-yard pass reception from Nick Allison.

Dan Zilke added 105 yards rushing for the Blue Devils.

McDONALD 41, WELLSVILLE 13: WELLSVILLE - P.J. Mansky rushed for a game-high 111 yards and two touchdowns for McDonald.

Jake Reckard added 101 yards on the ground and a 52-yard TD run for the Blue Devils.

McDonald led 34-0 through three quarters.

SOUTH RANGE 27, SPRINGFIELD 21: NEW MIDDLETOWN - The Tigers had the 6-0 lead after the first quarter, but the Raiders scored 14 points in the second then never trailed, defeating Springfield in an Inter Tri-County League, Upper Tier, game.

Hunter Snyder had the first score for Springfield with a 12-yard run. But in the second, South Range's Ross Stoffer and Jake Arsuffi each had touchdown runs of 5 and 25 yards, respectively, to give the Pirates the lead. Stoffer had another touchdown of the night, a 43-yard run, and David McCabe added a 29-yard TD to give South Range the win.

MOONEY 27, ERIE McDOWELL 21: YOUNGSTOWN - Trailing 21-19, Marcus McWilson scored his third touchdown of the game to lift Mooney past Erie McDowell.

McWilson rushed for 124 yards and had touchdowns of 1, 76 and 3 yards for the Cardinals.

FAIRPORT HARDING 35, CARDINAL 14: MIDDLEFIELD - Nick Mares rushed for 123 yards and scored twice, but Cardinal was defeated by Fairport.

Mares scored on a 27-yard run in the second quarter and a 43-yarder in the fourth for the Huskies.

Kyle Burchett rushed for 132 yards and scored twice for Fairport.
